The last born
son to a prosperous trading family on the Isle of Sharks,
he chafed in the lush life style. He also hated the rules
and rather strict life style that didn't allow much time
for childish antics. Before he even his 10th birthday, his
parents informed him that they found a good family for him
to marry into. The family only had a daughter. It was a
well established family in the caravan business and his
father wanted it.
Like any boy
faced with that situation he rebelled. He made sure he made
a bad impression on his future In-laws. However, these didn't
work and more often then not he found himself with a bruised
backside. He spent years arguing with his father and his
siblings about how he hated it in that family. However,
in the end everyone turned a deaf ear. So finally he went
silent and started to plan a great escape, while his family
thought he was finally accepting his fate. He learned the
languages and business skills he needed to know to be a
successful trader.
His 19th birthday
came and went and plans were being made to wed the pair.
A month before the wedding he put his plan into action.
In the cover of darkness he slipped out of the house and
snuck a board his friend's vessel. He knew his father was
sending the ship to a far off village. It sounded like the
perfect place to hide.
He spent the
time of the trip learning the fishing trade from the men
of the boat. He wasn't going to go to a fishing village
with nothing to offer. He had no idea what he was getting
into. Being the only one that spoke the dialect to some
degree, he played liaison between the traders and the villagers.
He found the priests bothersome and unfriendly and avoided
then when he could. Their talk of their faith bothered him,
he felt at time as if they were trying to force their beliefs
on him. When the ship left and he was still there, the villagers
were not happy about, least of all the priests. But they
let him stay. But he had to prove his worth it get a roof
over his head. He did this quickly enough in showing is
skills with Bow and arrow. He also proved and adept fisher.
Though it was his quick work of unloading the ships that
truly impressed the men into letting him stay.
During his first
years there he met Macalla. She knew his language and he
her tongue. He found comfort in their private chats. He
certainly enjoyed the discomfort it brought the priest.
She is probably his real true friend. So he's lived in relative
peace, watching what he says and does. He waits for the
day he can really call the village home.
At a ceremony,
Sho'shun decided to act on feelings he had for a villiage
maiden, Traelyn. Asking her parents for the right to court
her started a huge contraversy. He did not know about a
rival and found himself competing with another man for the
love of a woman. During this time, his hut was ransacked
and his belongings strewn across the doorway of Traelyn's
Hut. His rival Trevin was convicted of the crime. The council
indentured Trevin to him, despite protests from Sho'shun.
So the two men shared a hut for a whole season. Sho'shun
tried to be a nice host, but Trevin butted heads with him
the whole time.
On one memorable
day Traelyn confessed her love for Sho'shun choosing him
to hopefully be her mate. So with the indenturing over he
is starting the struggles ahead of him in his quest to mate
the woman of his heart.
